Retirees Club (London Branch) AGM
Posted by Brian Benton on 26 October 2000 at 11:49:24:
May I suggest that all club members make a serious effort to attend the AGM in Harrow Leisure Centre on Tuesday 30th January 2001, starting time 13:30. Barrie Morgans has been invited to attend in order to address us on the subject of pensions, there must be scope here for the odd embarrassing question. Don't expect too much though, he accepted an invitation last year but cancelled at the last minute and sent Kevin Waller in his stead. Regardless the topic will be on the agenda and Cyril Thomas, London branch chairman, has asked that anyone wanting to table pensions questions should send them to him by 8th January his address is cyril.thomas@virgin.net.
Communication via the Retirees clubs

I became aware to day of how out of touch the Retirees Clubs are on this matter. So please contact your local Retirees Club Committee and ask them to distribute the URL of this site to their members, suggesting that the members may find it interesting. The Retirees Clubs may have to be somewhat neutral so as to avoid a conflict of interests.

I am a member of a Retirees' Club, and I do try to pass on information about the Web Site every time I am in a gathering of the members, though my wife is even apprehensive about me doing that. She fears that the Company might take action against me. However, it is no use expecting the Committee of a Retirees' Club to help us. The Clubs are dependent to a large extent on the Company for their funding, and they must therefore watch their P's and Q's. Circulating the URL of the Web Site might be considered unduly provocative. I am sure the Company would like nothing more than a cast-iron excuse to withdraw the increasingly limited funding of the Retirees' Clubs, so they are right to be circumspect.
