President's Prattle |
In this edition of The Wallaseyan, I am concentrating on a few housekeeping topics which should help the Club to run smoothly and be an enjoyable place to relax. Remember that the club is not a commercially run pub, bar or restaurant, but instead it tries to be an extension of your own family home environment. With that in mind, we do not want to have too many rules and regulations which must be obeyed at all times. However, there are a number of "does and don'ts", which we all need to focus on. |
The club building is freely open to you all during our stated opening times, but occasionally, when we have a booked private event taking place, members are asked to vacate the main lounge and instead to use the members area or the snug. You should order your drinks from the bar via the small end counter and not from the main bar. Very occasionally we may have a large private event taking place and, in that case, please use the upstairs lounge if you can. Children under 18 years old are welcome in the clubhouse but should be off the premises by 9pm. As with all public buildings, smoking and vaping is not allowed anywhere on the premises. You may smoke or vape outside at the bottom of the main access stairs. Dogs are allowed in the Members Area and the Snug, but not in the main lounge area, provided they are well behaved and quiet, |
If you should accidently damage any part of the club premises or equipment, please inform the staff so that they can log it in the maintenance book. Similarly, if you notice something is not working, please tell the staff. If you spot a safety or emergency issue, then inform the staff immediately. In the case of Fire, the staff know what to do and will take charge. Please obey their instructions and help with any evacuation, particularly for any older or disabled members. |
The club expects all members to treat the club as if it was their own home. Please be aware of the presence of other club members, guests or prospective members, who may not wish to hear loud swearing or bad language. Such language is not acceptable as it creates a bad image of the club. |
The Club is a not-for-profit organisation, but at the same time it cannot make a loss. Please ensure that you do not cause any unnecessary expenses for the club. Also, please support the club's events as these are arranged for your benefit. We do not like to cancel planned events, so if you can, please try to attend. |
As I mentioned in the previous newsletter the maintenance team, who are all volunteers, do try hard to ensure that the club is, and remains, a pleasant place for you to enjoy. |
Whilst on the subject of volunteers, I also asked you in newsletter 25-10 to consider during the summer months about standing for committee in October. The current club committee is two members short. We still do not have a Treasurer and there is also another vacant general committee position. The club welcomes applications from any club member for any position on the committee at any time. The committee can co-opt members, so if you think you may wish to stand for election, in October, then please let me know via the "Have Your Say" button below. Co-opted members may attend committee meetings from the date of their co-option. Please think about this and how you can best help and improve the club. We would welcome any younger members with fresh ideas onto the committee. |
The club staff are all hard working but sometimes they may get overloaded. Please try to help them, with, for example, returning glasses and other tableware to the bar. At the end of the staff shift, then normally they have to clean up and reset the chairs and tables before they can go home. Please help them if you can. |
The car park can become quite full, so please park with consideration for others and if you cannot find a space then please park in the road outside. |
As you know we now hold 7 Car Boot Sales a year. This means that the Car Park must be totally empty by 7am on the mornings that a Car Boot Sale takes place. On these occasions do not leave your car in the car park overnight. Volunteers to run the Car Boot Sales are often needed, so please come forward if you think you can help. |
The Friday night Quiz is very popular as the quizzes are set by different quizmasters every week. This means that we have a large variety of different types of quiz. The team that wins the quiz wins a bottle of wine provided by the club. However the rule is that the bottle of wine is only awarded, when the winning team member sets another quiz within a few weeks. |
In accordance with Club rules, if annual subscriptions for 2025 remain unpaid on 30th June then membership lapses. This means that Club membership cards will no longer operate and access to the clubhouse will not be permitted even as the guest of another member. If you have not yet paid your subscription and wish to continue membership, then email the club immediately. If you do not wish to remain a member, and have not already informed the club, then please do so. |
Well, that's enough of my prattle. Just come along to the club and enjoy all those events and the happy relaxed atmosphere that we are trying to create. |
